    Transfer from San Jose Airport:
  Outside San Jose (SJO) Arrival Hall you find many taxi waiting 24/7.   Try to avoid using the orange taxis which lost their licence from the Costa Rica government to operate at the airport, because of consistently overcharging arriving passengers.   Never prepay your taxi transfer at the airport!   Tell taxi drivers to use their meter.   Don't use taxis without a meter!

    Hotels in downtown San Jose are located 20-30 minutes EAST of the airport.
              When you arrive at San Jose International Airport located in Alajuela, NOT in San Jose, see Airport SJO below and you want to travel next day to Arenal, Guanacaste, Puntarenas, Jaco or Quepos, it makes NO sense to stay in a San Jose downtown hotel (bottom right below).
    It means you have to travel next day back to the International Airport and continue your journey in westbound direction (Highway 3) or northbound direction (Panamerican Highway / Costa Rica Highway 1)         See map below for visual explanation
